In 1893, athletes received rubdowns here with goose grease and alcohol. In 1910, the then-stadium burned, taking seven city blocks with it. The new stadium hosted World Cup soccer, Jack Dempsey fights, greyhound racing and Elvis Presley. The 2001 renovation stayed true to all that history.
